I made a thing

While I was making a Chef figure at last year’s JoeCon, I bought one of the Club’s display stand thingies, as I wanted a suitable background for it.  It took me a while, but I made one I like.

I printed this out on nice paper with a laser printer, then used a glue stick to apply it to some cardstock.  The cardstock in this case was a FedEx envelope.  Using a paper cutter, I sliced some very straight edges.  The result is below!

A Spark

At JoeCon, one of the booths I spent the most time at had custom cast figure parts for sale.  It’s a good way to make custom GI Joe figures without worrying about paint rubbing at the joints after a while.  Custom casting is something I’ve wanted to try for a while, and even gave a small go at a few years ago.  Well, that booth reignited the fire I had to try my hand at this.  But I’m being overly ambitious right now.  So I’m seeing if I can’t work with the man who ran the booth to help me get my little project going.  This will likely take a long time, but I can be patient.

Digging out

I’m always a little sad when JoeCon ends for the usual reasons, but also a little weary, because I have so many toys to archive!  I’m slowly digging myself out of the pile that’s accumulated, so there’s light at the end of the tunnel.  Unfortunately, I’m noticing that I’ve got errors on my figures again, and it’ll take some time to get those properly sorted.  Don’t worry, I will get them fixed.  It just depends on the speed of the postal service!

Oh Joe…

If you know me well, you know of my affection for G.I. Joes.  If you don’t know me well, then you probably aren’t reading this, so it’s a moot point.  Everybody has to have a hobby, and these little guys are definitely it.  The G.I. Joe convention is this weekend, but sadly on the other side of the country.  I’ll have to make do by picking up the complimentary G.I. Joe comic on Saturday’s Free Comic Book Day.  But my hobby is more than just collecting – I share it by archiving what I have for YoJoe.com.  And seeing as how last year a movie came out on this brand, I’ve been up to my eyeballs on G.I. Joe merchandise to archive.  Well, I’m finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and I may be caught up by summertime, when all the new toys come out.  It’s a labor of love, really, but there are times when even I question my mental stability for doing all this!
