Why is it that I can fall asleep easier in those horrible lecture chairs than I can in my bed? I have a theory: those chairs are so rigid and uncomfortable that they stop the flow of oxygen to the brain. That, when combined with boring professors lecturing occasionally with the lights out (showing slides, overheads, film clips, what have you), creates a perfect atmosphere to fall asleep. Well, not so much fall asleep as pass out. Oxygen deficits in the brain tend to have that effect... And when we're in bed? We're too comfortable and we've screwed up our internal clock so much that we're just not tired. Hmm... Maybe I could replace my bed with a lecture chair and see if I can get back to a normal sleeping schedule...
